Have you ever realized how blessed you and I are and we still manage to sometimes take things for granted? There are people that don't have clean water to drink but they either drink it and get sick or don't drink it and die from thirst. Either way, there's a chance of catching some illness and dying. This is what many people go through in poor communities. Communities that are mostly deep into the heart of the country and everybody else is oblivious of their existence.
It's crazy how just a drop of water can make such a difference in the way we live. It enables us to live a much happier and healthier life, it allow us to keep on living and enjoy many other things in life by the simple fact that we don't have to worry about sickness caused by unclean water. Water is VITAL in our lives. We cannot live without it. That's why helping others get clean water is a great cause to start acting on.
EVERYONE should have clean water to drink, to live, to survive... But that's not what happens in reality, is it? I don't think is fair that a certain amount of people are forgotten and are not having access to what they should.
I've been in communities doing volunteer work, mainly in my country: Panama. And, even though the city itself is growing at a fast pace, there are still many people in need who are being left behind. I know about this reality because I've seen it and through that experience and by talking to the people in the communities I've come to the realization that one of the problems that most of them have in common is the lack of access to clean water. They either have to drink from a nearby river, which they also use to wash their clothes, or walk to get some in another town, or wait for the government to pass by and hand them water (which doesn't happen that often).
We need to start acting and getting involved with organizations that work to solve in some way these kind of problems. We cannot be just observers, we need to be participants. And I know that one day you may feel less motivated because you start thinking that you're not seeing a major difference and it's a long road to walk, but I think that that should never the point. The point should be that YOU are giving back and you are making a difference to a community, to a family. The whole world doesn't necessarily have to see it because the most important people who will have the great change in their lives are seeing it and experiencing it: the old man and woman, the mother, the father, the children, the aunt, the uncle... All of them are seeing it and they will be really grateful for that. To realize that with enough effort you can change somebody's life for the best is priceless.
I encourage you to take action in any way possible! Get involved and make a difference, no matter how big or small.
